First of all, let me say that this is a very complicated section--there are a lot of choices available for each piece you choose. This FAQ is an attempt to answer some questions we have received from our customers. If we've skipped something you'd like an answer to or if you have questions of any kind, please email us.
ORDERING TIPS | |
---|---|
1. | Be sure you know what design you want from the Dog Breed Design List or the Other Designs, including Cat and Horse Designs. If you just type the breed name in on the Order Blank, you will automatically get the adult dog. Many of our breeds come in puppy designs or special designs, so if you want one of those designs, make sure you know the name of the design and type that wording in the Order Blank. Also be sure to note which piece(s) that design will go on. Please try not to order the design on the wrong piece. |
2. | Pay close attention to Glass Color. The wrong color choice can be fatal for a piece. All of the brown-toned dogs look *really* good on the blues, greens, and blue-greens. Your design truly won't look anywhere near as good on other colors. To be honest, any color dog will look good on these colors. The glass colors are listed towards the bottom of this page. Our personal favorites are the medium blue, turquoise (aqua), teal (jade), and medium green. Watch the contrast. Make sure you don't pick any of the "light" glass colors for a white dog or a dog with white on it. Also make sure you don't pick any of the "dark" glass colors for a black dog or a dog with black on it. The dogs will not show up well, and they will blend right into the glass background. Beige and white are almost always bad color choices for any breed; turning the piece dull. White glass does look good with black or very dark dogs on some pieces, but it is still very stark. It is our hope that these lovely Fused Glass Pieces will liven up any room they're put in! |
3. | Also pay attention to Glass Type. The wrong choice can make a piece less than what it should be. Wispy is the best choice of glass type for any piece that the light will shine through (Suncatchers, Lamps, etc.). Some pieces are limited in the glass type you can order, so be sure and look for that in each item description. The glass types are listed and described towards the bottom of this page... |
1. What is Fused Glass?
People constantly confuse Fused Glass with Stained Glass, because everyone is more familiar with Stained Glass. Stained Glass is an image made out of glass pieces. Madeleine's Stepping Stones (see the Stepping Stone on the left below.) are a good example of Stained Glass except there is concrete instead of lead in between the glass pieces.
Fused Glass (see the Suncatcher on the right below.) is an image fused on glass. Madeleine uses a powder to create the image, and then the piece is fired. That's why Madeleine can get incredible detail on a small area of glass. Can you imagine someone doing something as tiny as a Stained Glass earring? You can order Fused Glass earrings, though!

2. Can I get my breed on a Large Tiffany Lamp, for example?
Madeleine does *every* breed she offers on *every* glass piece she does. Some designs have restrictions as far as what piece(s) they can go on, but each design has a link to a page that tells you exactly what pieces that design comes on.
3. Will you get a full body dog or a head study on the glass piece(s) that you've ordered?
Each glass piece is labeled either "Head Study" or "Full Body" and some are labeled "Head Study or Full Body".
4. What colors of glass are available?
The glass colors are picks on the Order Blank, and they are: Light Green Medium Green Dark Green Teal (Jade) Turquoise (Aqua) Light Blue Medium Blue Dark Blue Pink Mauve Light Purple Medium Purple Dark Purple Yellow Orange Peach Rust Red Light Brown Medium Brown Dark Brown White Beige (This piece comes in opaque glass only) |

2. | Wispy Glass - clear glass with threads of opaque glass threaded through it (light shines directly through part of this glass) |
3. | Opaque Glass - glows only in direct sunlight (no light shines directly through) |
